Deep window seats
Haarlem canal houses often have generous sills. We build padded seats with storage beneath, sized to fit existing shutters and radiator covers without blocking heat circulation.
Reading nooks
Quiet corners for books and slow afternoons — window seats, alcoves, and built-in benches.
Alcove benches between walls
Recesses beside chimney breasts become reading alcoves with a fitted cushion, wall light, and narrow bookshelf. Depth of 55–65 cm is ideal for a child curled with a picture book.
Lighting for evening stories
We specify warm LED wall lamps with independent switches — bright enough to read, dim enough to signal bedtime approaching. No overhead glare in a space meant for winding down.
Book rotation and display
Forward-facing ledges show cover art and invite browsing. We plan capacity for twenty to thirty books per child, with lower shelves for current favourites and upper shelves for seasonal rotation.
Textiles that invite stillness
Linen cushions, knitted throws, and flat-weave rugs define the nook as separate from the sleep zone. All fabrics specified are washable — practical for real Haarlem family life.

- High sleeper bed above; reading nook below with bean cushion, clip-on book light, and peg rail for current reads.

- Wide window seat for two. Divider cushion down centre for separate territories. Shared basket for library books on weekly rotation.
