Low platforms and floor cushions
A raised oak platform demarcates play from sleep without building walls. We specify height (typically 12–15 cm), edge rounding, and non-slip surfaces suited to Haarlem's original floorboards.
Play corners
Defined play zones within bedrooms and living spaces — no separate playroom required.
Wall-hung display ledges
Open shelves at child height keep toys visible and reachable. In narrow rooms, vertical storage preserves floor area for movement and building projects.
Transition from play to calm
Play corners sit away from the bed, ideally near natural light but not in the direct path to the door. A rug boundary and dimmable pendant help signal when play time ends.
Living-room integration
Many Haarlem families lack a spare room. We design living-room alcoves with basket storage and a fold-away table that disappears behind a curtain panel after dinner.
Safe anchoring in old walls
Canal-house walls may be brick, lath, or stud. We specify appropriate fixings for each shelf and climbing element — never guesswork with historic plaster.

- Spaarnwouderstraat — living alcove
- Curtain-track enclosure in living room recess. Low table, two floor cushions, wall-mounted paper roll holder. Closes off visually for adult evenings.
- Zijlstraat — window-side play shelf
- Three-tier shelf flanking a deep sill. Baskets for blocks, cars, and craft supplies. No floor footprint lost.
- Spaarne — under-stair play niche
- Converted understairs cupboard with LED strip, foam mat, and magnetic board. Door removed, soft arch trim added.
